HICKORY, N.C. (May 3, 2014) – JR Motorsports late model driver Josh Berry scored his third win of the season Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway, racing his No. 88 Speedco Chevrolet to the victory.
Berry’s biggest competition came from teammate William Byron, who finished second in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet. Byron pressed Berry in the waning circuits, which were plagued by a myriad of cautions that kept the field bunched tight.
“I hated those cautions at the end because I felt like we were better after a few laps,” said Berry. “I'm just glad that I was able to get some good restarts and hold off those guys behind me to get another win.
“William and I both had really good cars, and I think that we know where we can improve for next time. The success we have had so far this year has come from a lot of hard work, and I'm just very thankful to have this opportunity again and have such great support from JRM, Speedco, and Liberty University. William has done a great job this season so far, and I feel like we are definitely pushing each other to keep improving. I know that before too long he will be getting his first win.”
Berry started third and instantly laid siege on the top spot. He took the lead away on lap 20 and never relinquished it. The win was Berry’s second consecutive win at Hickory and third overall. Byron finished second followed by Austin McDaniel, Ashley Huffman and Chandler LeVan.
