KENLY, N.C. (April 4, 2016) – Josh Berry drove to a hard-earned third place in Saturday’s season-opening CARS LMSC Tour event at Southern National Motorsports Park, while JR Motorsports teammate Christian Eckes finished 12th in his first visit to the .410-mile speed palace.
Berry started third for the 150-lapper and spent the early laps just sorting things out behind Deac McCaskill. After passing up to second, Berry walked the line between chasing the leader and simultaneously conserving his right rear tire. On lap 95, the caution waved and Berry resumed stalking the leader through the next 20 laps. The race went green from lap 115, and Berry was second until Tommy Lemons Jr. got past with a handful of laps remaining for second.
Eckes started fifth and immediately raced to third, choosing to bide his time and save his tires. On lap 96, following a caution flag, his No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet began to get tight, and he fell back to seventh. He lost five more spots over the remaining distance to finish 12th.
McCaskill won the race, followed by Lemons, Berry, Myatt Snider and Matt Bowling.
Berry and Eckes will be back in action again on April 16, when the CARS Late Model Stock Tour invades Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C.

“I’m pretty happy with how today went for us. Our car was really good. We just missed it a tiny bit and were too loose on exit from the start. We worked on exit for nearly all of practice, but we could never get it exactly like we needed for the race. I did my best to stay with Deac (McCaskill) and take care of the right rear tire at the same time, but the final push I made at him with about 15 to go burnt it up for good causing us to slip to third. SNMP is a track that I have struggled at, so I’m happy to have a real solid run before we go back there later on this year. Next up is Orange County, where we won twice last year, so I’m excited to get back there in two weeks.”
